Intermittent Heat, Solved !

Here in Michigan, you have to have a good heater. When the heater in my 1996 Ranger with 125K on it, started putting out heat when it wanted to, I thought that maybe this was the end for my old pal. This was further confirmed when I read all the links on the web about broken blend-air doors and bad heater core's. Neither of which I wanted any part of repairing. Then I checked with the Ford shop manual and found that the blend-air door is positioned by a motor, that is controled by the temperature knob. This knob actually controls a veriable resistor (Potentiometer) that varies the voltage going to the motor. A quick shot of electronic control cleaner in this control set everything right again. Certainly worth a shot if your heat isn't working! B.D.

And of course pots can be had from Radio Shack for less than $5.

good to know. i would try cleaning it before replacing it but that just me.
