Doing some research for a presentation, thought the SRP logo looked oddly familiar :icon_twisted:

Whoa, thats odd.....or is it?

That's where he got the idea for the logo. Jim admitted it a while ago. Old news.......for old members.

I've been around a while (now that I think about it, around 4 years), must have been before my time, or I missed it.

Still think it's kind of funny that I stumbled across it on like the 22nd page of a google image search looking for pictures for a project :icon_twisted:

Yep, that's where I got the idea from. Actually, there was another SRP logo that was being used...but I can't find it now. SRP is part of JE Pistons. Over the last 8 years that logo has only popped up here a few times.

I wanted an american flag in my logo and initially was looking at having the flag in the TRS leters. I eventually came across the SRP logo in a magazine and showed it to a guy I knew with a sign shop and asked if we could some how incorporate the idea.

I had done a check on trademarks and don't have all the specifics but basically:

A registered trademark confers a bundle of exclusive right upon the registered owner, including the right to exclusive use of the mark in relation to the products or services for which it is registered. The law in most jurisdictions also allows the owner of a registered trademark to prevent unauthorized use of the mark in relation to products or services which are identical or "colourfully" similar to the "registered" products or services, and in certain cases, prevent use in relation to entirely dissimilar products or services. The test is always whether a consumer of the goods or services will be confused as to the identity of the source or origin. An example maybe a very large multinational brand such as "Sony" where a non-electronic product such as a pair of sunglasses might be assumed to have come from Sony Corporation of Japan despite not being a class of goods that Sony has rights in.

So in a nutshell, If we tried to use that logo with SRP and something like 'Super Ranger Pistons' we'd be in trouble. Nobody has ever came here thinking TRS was a division of Sportsman Racing Products. Although the logo is similar because of the flag, the letters seperate us and we're involved in completely different services.

Found it....

After seeing that logo with the flag, SRP was using this for a while....
