Interesting statement today at school

I've seen quite a few manual t cases in explorers.

If that was the case, he then should've been trying to correct funkingonutz that the "Explorer" had a 9" rear axle, not an 8.8".

Someone definitely doesn't have it all together.

not trying to stir the pot but i had a 77 with a 8.8 init:icon_confused:

Somewhere around 86 is when the F150 explorer had an 8.8. My buddies orignal 86 F150 2wd had an 8.8 and it was an Explorer trim.

Have to remember that the Explorer badging was a trim package at one time not a phisical Truck Model.

To be honest your teacher is correct only to a point. You assumed that the teacher was talking about the actual Ford Explorer SUV that showed up in 1991.

Most of the 78-79 Broncos were baged with Ranger emblems.

So technically speaking yes the Ranger also had a 9" and D44 from factory. Along with a 351M and 400M V8 option.

I am betting he got his wires crossed with the Bronco. Not everybody can be a walking encyclopedia.

Yeah, but he's supposedly a Ford tech. I mean, you bring your Explorer into the dealership and you don't want the guy at the service desk looking at it and going, "This is, what, a full-size Bronco?"

He is a teacher, so he has been out of the biz for a couple years, and I doubt what axles came in 91-94 Explorers is part of the class.

Do you go into a parts store and say you need part X for a Ford Dana 35 front axle? If you do I bet you will get asked "what is that in?" Most people would just say I need part X for a Ford Explorer and they would get it, the exact make and model of the front axle would never be brought up by the customer or the parts person because it wouldn't matter.

Between the Ranger and the really late BII you have a couple choices to pick from (D28, D28H, or D35) so then they would have to find out what it is go get the right part, but for a TTB Explorer part X is part X no matter what.

Being out of the biz or not, if he was a Ford tech "back in the day" then he should know what axles came in what...

Seen them in 91-94's quite often. Also had a 97 come into work with a manual trans and transfercase once.
