Intake questions

im an 18 year old guy, why dont i want the sound and make it look nice?

power can come later after im done school and dont have a bar tab to pay LOL

thats also like saying why do i want a 12 inch sub blasting air into the back of my seat when i turn up the music

Well I would get an exhaust, and if you really want an intake sound then go ahead and remove the silencer... it shouldn't really affect anything. I'm only 20 but stuff stops mattering after a little while. Like my friend getting the loudest possible muffler possible (I hate it) but i got a mellow sounding muffler on my truck and its the best sound in the world it just sounds proffesional not like a kid...

I would also lay off drinking too.. just saying... lol too many friends getting in trouble with the law.

I don't know its just my opinion, I would rather have a truck that could whoop the tar out of any kids car that "sounds" like it could kick my trucks ass and leave them surprised I spent the money in the right places... :icon_thumby:

you got some great points buddy and im getting a flowmaster 40 done as soona s im home next lol

I have a Flowmaster 40 on mine and I love the tone of it. Sounds really nice once you start it up and dies down once you at cruising speeds. The power band sound though is AWESOME!

Pull the silencer if you want more intake sound. The 'after market intake sound' that you referred to is mostly the product of not having that resonator chamber on the line.

If you are looking for sound and are already putting down for a flowmaster, get the super 44, its a bit louder.

Also remember that the intake and exhaust are calibrated systems. If you increase or decrease the size and flow of one, without moving the other the same amount in the same direction and letting the computer know about it the truck won't run right.

You exhaust plan doesn't sound like it will mess anything up (unless you plan on running 2.5" or 3" pipe. Just something to keep in mind for the future.

Do what? if you had to do that to every vehicle with FI and stuff no one would ever get exhausts. My truck runs exactly the same with the dynomax kit on it and it has 2.5" pipe, I didn't touch the computer. The computer gets all the information it needs from the sensors, as in the MAF sensor tells how much air is getting in the engine, the IAT tells how hot it is in the manifold (if the newer vehicles have them? :icon_confused:) and the computer compensates, and anything after the cats is really just for sound benafits.

The only change will most likely be to your power curve, and generally it will make it go to the right and produce the same power at higher RPM's.

If you get the pipes too big after the cat you still need a bigger intake, MAF, and TB to compensate or you still lose back pressure and it runs stupid.

I also know of a lot of guys who went and got exhausts and it did screw it up because they didn't do anything to the intake side.

Well yeah but even increasing the intake size won't really help it will only suck in as much air as it needs. and a bigger intake is not nessicarily better. because it sucks in the air through a bigger tube and and you actually pack less air in the chamber... with a smaller or only slightly larger intake or even just a larger TB and a cleaned up MAF it sucks air in with the right size it will produce more of a vacuum effect and get more air in the chamber and thus more power...

so what do i need to do to remove the silencer and get that whistle im looking for?

Hmm..uhh..hmm..

Lot of misinformation going on in this thread...backpressure, vaccumm effects...:annoyed:

OP:

If you want better sound from your truck, go with a chambered muffler, like a Flowmatser 40, or, a Thrush Welded muffler from Summit Racing which is only like 25$. You can remove the intake silencer to get that 'whoosh' sound when the throttle plate is opened quickly.

As for power, a muffler/bigger pipe and or a filter are not going to do anything at all. If you want more power, you need Forced Induction combined with more fuel, Internal Engine mods combined with more fuel, or, you could reagear the axles and get some more 'oomph'.

Just dont waste your money on things like filters and mufflers if you are looking for more power, as you will be disappointed. Remember, it's a truck, not a sports car.

considering i said i just want the sound and performance doesnt amtter right now....i dont want performance right now lol.

how do i remove the silencer or what do i do for tht sound....?

1) Attach hand to resonator.
2) pull
3) find some way to cover up the hole.

Well vacuum effect is not exactly right... the piston starts going down the valve opens and it puls in air faster is what I meant. and they also reduce the pipes diameter as it gets closer to the intake to produce the bernoilli principle as the intake gets smaller the air speeds up and the air gets in the chamber faster...
