can i swap the intake manifold out on my 84 bII? change it to one that goes straight to the spacer, rather than haveing to put the egr spacer on?

As long as the ports all line up intake and coolant does your thermostat go into the bottom hose on the radiator I pulled mine out and put it going into the top hose with a different tstat housing with the bypass hose just below it

ha.. yeah actually i just replaced my thermostat like 2 days ago. flushed the radiator, replaced all the hoses & gaskets. had some issues withmy lower rear water outlet. it was "fun" to say the least haha. i wish ida known i could have changed the location of the therm before now haha! woulda saved me some hassle lol.

I believe you need to go aftermarket for that but as long as you cap the egr ports off with a plate it is really not necessary to change it. How`s your duraspark going I like you want to do alot of thing to my motor but decided since it is running good now I am gonna do a rebuild on a different motor and tranny get it all set up for a direct swap. My compression is low but even no sense in putting any more money into it get it all set up and can swap it out in a day or two. Yea that cap on the back of the water pump can be a bitch I never did like having the thermostat there you can get a different manifoldbut you wil have the ability to put the t-stat on the top going into the radiatoryou will need to get the proper stat housing anyway because the manifold wont have the bypass nipple coming out of it right now your has the 3/4 inch nipple coming out the side of the manifold down to the outlet you were having trouble with a 1 inch nipple. the tstat housing you need is a two part the bottom goes to the bypass and then when the stat opens it closes the bypass to get a better flow through the radiator my temp guage never goes up past half the scale with a 180 stat and the heater still gets good and hot.

i still haven't started the duraspark swap.. still waiting on my carb. i recieved it today, but they sent me a 1.21 venturi.. they sent another out to me today. im hoping it'll be here by friday so i can get it all swapped over the weekend. but you're on the right track i believe.. i probably should'nt poor too much money into the 2.8.. i need to get a 5.0 to drop in it at some point.

4.0 5.0 either one is right. :-P

Soon as I get the chance to go junkyarding and grab a non emission carb my truck is going under the knife for some life altering surgery. It runs OK now but it idles at about 1800 rpm when warm, and has NO low end power when cold. I have to ride the clutch to about 10 mph or it will just stall.

You can just block the EGR off with piece of steel plate. Here's a good photo of it with nothing in the way. http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m320/bigswede66441/bronco006.jpg
