I have a 93 Ranger with the 4.0 litre pushrod engine. I am in the process of redoing all the upper gaskets. Question is do you use silicone with the gaskets for the lower intake, fuel rail, and upper intake or just a bit of silicone where the heads meet the block for the lower intake? Thanks in advance.

I've never put silicone on any intake gasket. Just a couple dabs in the corners where things meet.

hi welcome to TRS. yes dab it where the heads join the in the valley at the block. if you are using the felpro top end gasket set there should be an instruction sheet with it and will explain where to dab. also there is a blank spot at the back and on the front of the block that you will need to also address for it may need a bead there. I am not sure what gasket set you are using. cheers and good luck.

re-read your question.... did you take off the bottom intake from the engine or just the top air tunnel intake? if it is only the top then you need non at all.

Lower intake depends on gasket style. Used to be a cardboard style gasket that you bent into shape - that one does benefit from just a tiny bit of silicone in the corners where the block meets the heads. The new style two piece gaskets require a bead of silicone along the block on the front and back. Both styles are still available, I have no preference, they work equally well.

You may need a tiny bit of silicone where the lower intake and heads come together when you put the valve covers on but otherwise NONE anywhere else above that.
