Ok so i did the odmeter worm gear swap on my ranger its a 95 4x4 manual with 4.0. I was having trouble with getting the speedo to work afterwards. Turns out the circuit board on the back of the instument panel has a little corrosion on it and after messing with it for a while i got it working and powering the guages again. In the process for some stupid fu king reason i pulled the needles off of the tach and speedo. Now they are all out of wack. How do i set them back to their proper locations. I tried to set them with the ignition key on at zero mph but the speedo has a slight delay being the guage starts at 10 mph. Im about 10 mph fast. I have tried numerous times to set it correctly. Is there a special process to reinstall the guage needle for the speedo to get an accurate reading?

I have a second question as well so i will ask it here instead of cluttering the board. When i took the instrument panel out and was having trouble getting the power back to the guages i noticed corrosion on the circiut board on the ip body. (The green film looking part on the back). Well now some of my lights in the dash are working when they feel not when i hit the switch. Its looking like i might have to replace the ip. What is involved with this. Can i just swap a new one in and go what do i do about the mileage on the odometer? Mine is accurate anyway because the worm gear was messed up for some time and wasnt clocking mileage anyway. Can i swap the ip from a newer year like the silver face guages for an 03. Is mine specific because its a 4x4? Sorry if its seems like such stupid ?'s but i am still a newb to the ranger world.

Take the clear plastic off the gauge set and follow a buddy down the road at certain pre-determines speed. When he hits that speed( Lets say 25) put the needs on so it reads 25. For the tach go to some parts store( I usually go to advanced) they usually have a scan tool you can borrow( They just want to hold onto your license until you bring it back). Go into engine management and see what she's idling at. Do the same thing as the speedo. If she's idling at 750 put the needs at 750. I had to do the speedo one with my dads ranger( Well he followed me ) :)

As for swapping gauges from a new year... I would find the cross year for that part/see if it's the same part number. Some times even though they fit some small things can be different. I got a cluster out of a 97, put into my dads 96. On the new clust the reset fuel light comes on with the dome light( On the old cluster it was the door ajar light). So just because they fit doesn't mean it's right.

Thanks for your help. I found a thread showing how to set your needles using aa battery. Im going to give it a try.
