I have been driving for the past year missing one tail light. i had a 89 taillight zip tied to a tiedown in the back off my bed. i woke up today and decided to polish of my hangover and start the new year with my truck in one piece
This is the way i installed my tail lights on my fiber glass bedsides, and has worked real well for me. ( the driver side has been fine for a year )
A problem i encountered is that the gap for the tail light was off a tad. you have to make it fit right, it ended up with some gaps, soo i siliconed all the edges.
i used
RTV clear silicon
6 screws
screwdriver
drill
4 little wood blocks
hacksaw
black marker
This is what i started with
I removed this trim from the tail light . it wouldnt allow the tail light to fit in. all i did is use some pliers and bend it off piece by piece
I marked the two holes that i would drill out on the side where the tailgate would be
Then i put the tail light in and the two screws in from the tailgate side.
it would be these two in the pic.
then i ran the two other screws that are on the bedside meeting the screws from the back with a block of wood. then i tightend all four screws enough , but carefully not to strip the plastic thread of the tail light or the thread that the screw had made in the block of wood.
the last thing i did was run rtv clear silicone around the gaps of the bedside and the light...
and done !
i had to change one of the bulbs once on the driver side .. i just unscrewed everything and used a razor to cut the silicone, changed the bulb cleaned the silicon and redo everything doesnt take that long...
hope this helps anybody
its probably not the best way but it works darn good.
the blocks of wood work great! try it before you put me down for it
nobody has gotten down on theyre hands and knees looking for the little blocks of wood.. only trs members know my dirty little secret now.
have a great new year i wish everybody at trs the best.
