Installing T case shifter

There is a part for the shifter that i do not know how it goes on. I only has one hole in it and is the piece that holds the tube. It has a small metal piece coming off of it that seems to go into the hole that a large bolt goes into. Does anyone know where this piece goes?

I am not getting much of a mental image of what you describing?

The big bolt is the pivot bolt, the small bolt is what adjusts the linkage.
