Hey fellas. I am toying with the idea of adding some aftermarket gauges to the build. Was thinking just the basics with volts, water temp, and oil pressure. I like the more accurate/detailed reading of aftermarket gauges, but definitely don’t want the OEM gauges to be inert in the dash. I am running a 91 4.0 OHV and was wondering of those that have done it or are also considering it, where they best installed the sensors for oil and water temp for a clean instal, while keeping the OEM units functioning. Was thinking of these electric Auto Meters.
Cheers.

I went with oil filter sandwich adaptor and a hose adaptor fir temp. I've used Glow Shift adaptors... get them on Amazon.

I like Autometer gauges but prefer to mount them in the dash and eliminate the factory gauges rather than have duplicates. It's more work but it looks way more finished and it puts them where they're easy to see, not below the dash. I also buy gauges with letters, pointers, and backgrounds colored like the originals.

Attention to detail makes the best results.

I run a direct oil pressure gauge. Don't trust electric. I would love to see how you mounted gauges in the dash, any pics?

They make fittings that you can splice/clamp into hoses that are threaded. I ran a temporary temp gauge when I was deling w/ some cooling issues...pulled it when resolved...left the fitting and just plugged it in case I need it again.

I agree! More work but way better looking

Do you guys run all new wiring or do you splice into existing gauge wires?

What's it like installing an aftermarket tach when its a 4.0OHV coil pack?

Asking for a friend...
