INstalled transmission, now motor froze?

Automatic
So I FINALLY got my transmission to go in, and I went to turn the motor by hand via the bolt in the front (cam shaft bolt?) and it didn't budge. So I took out the breaker bar and got it to turn but the belts didn't budge. I tried the other direction (loose) and the bolt started to come out. The flywheel also doesn't turn (wanted to bolt the torque converter on). It turned by hand yesterday when I needed to move the flywheel to line the bolt holes up.

The only thing we can think of is it is bound, or we bent something. Which is possible because we had the transmission lined up and it wasn't moving, so we let down the jack holding the engine up and everything slid into place. Didn't hear any noises however, and it went really smoothe. So we bolted it in, and went to try and do the torque converter and realized nothing happened.

The transmission has 2 bolts out still one on the left on on the right, but I thought that wouldn't make my motor not turn so I haven't bothered putting them in yet. And the transmission is flush with the motor form what I can tell.

Could this be from the torque converter not being seated on the transmission. it wasn't "clicking" when we spun it around on the flywheel before the trans made it all the way in, and we took it down TWICE to try and seat it better with no luck. Any ideas?

Oh yeah, it's an 87 automatic. the trans is an a4ld from a 89 b2.

the torque converter is not seated correctly, Friend of mine had an issue like this with his BII. if the torque converter is not hitting the bolt heads in the transmission when you spin it by hand it isn't fully seated. once you get it fully seated tap a small wooden wedge between the bell housing and T/C to keep it from sliding out when you wrestle it in there and pull it out when it is sitting a few inches from being bolted up.

IF the engine isn't turning, aggreed with Holyford the TC isn't where it needs to be.

Maybe Iv'e read into what your saying? but you may need to disengage/remove the tranny all together an make sure that your engine can rotate prior to tranny install. Don't forget to remove the spark plugs... with them out, makes it much easier to rotate the engine by itself and with tranny when everything is getting back together.

Just a question/thought.... are the flex plates/flywheels the same from each vintage that you're putting together?? and are the TC's the same from either vintage and animal ,(ranger and BII)??

yeah everything's the same, just wasn't seated.

Now the pump gears may be broken though.
