Very uncommon. If it's a sudden loss of power, then something has actually happened and needs to be investigated. If it's just something that happened over a long period of time and if all the regular tune-up things (spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter, etc) have been recently done and all the hoses have been checked for cracks / leaks / connection, you might want to look into cleaning the MAF - crud builds up on the elements over time and changes what airflow readings are sent to the PCM - you can buy MAF cleaner at most parts houses and GENTLY spray the elements (ie: follow the directions - you can damage them). I'm guilty of this myself - didn't really notice the gradual loss of power until one day I decided to check and noticed the buildup on those elements after 150k miles - cleaned them and it definitely made a difference in both power and gas mileage.
