After a month of not driving (or even starting) my Ranger, she has lost an injector. Considering the 306,000 miles on the clock, I would like to replace all six. Which brings me to my question...

The stock injectors are F87E-B2A Denso injectors. This part number seems to be a bit difficult to locate. I did find a new set of F87E-J2A Denso injectors for an '01 Ranger (non flex fuel - mine isn't either).

Will these work? From what I know they should, but I'd like to confirm. Thanks!

To clarify, I've attached a couple pictures of the stock injectors, and here is the link to the new injectors I'd like to buy:

(6) NEW OEM Ford F87E-J2A Fuel Injectors - Motorcraft CM4937 - Without Flex Fuel

In the mean time, I have a set of 19 lb/hr Bosch injectors from a Mustang. After doing a few searches and doing some reading, others have used these injectors in 3.0 Ranger applications. I suppose the worst it might do is run poorly or not at all. I'm going to try these and will report back. I'm tired of driving my diesel super duty every day!

I would think they would work. It might run oddly until it learns the new units, but I would think it would work.

I got the injectors installed last night. I drove it to work today and have a report.

The good:
  • It runs!
  • I can hardly believe it, but the truck seems to have a little more expressway ooomph

The bad
  • It is appearing to be using a lot of fuel - I mean a LOT

I'll run it for a couple more hundred miles (I have a big commute) and put a definite number on the fuel economy.

Does anyone know the specifications on the stock injectors? Are they in fact 21 lb/hr units?

I thought gasoline 3.0l engines had 19lb injectors and flex fuel 3.0l engines had 23 or 24lbs injectors.

You may very well be correct. I'm going to keep digging for the specifications of the stock injectors.

I checked the fuel mileage for the first tank: 19 MPG. Quite respectable, imho. Before I had troubles I was getting 20-21 MPG. The second half of the tank seemed to last a lot longer than the first half did.

I did "rebuild" the injectors I am using now last fall (soaked and blew out and new basket filters), but they haven't been used in at least seven years prior to this. I'm thinking they needed some run time to get up to snuff - of course at the expense of my MPG.

I'll check the next tank and report back, but a front wheel bearing signed out on the way back yesterday (the original piece). I ordered one today and will address it before I drive it again.

Well, I threw in the towel. I ordered a set of rebuilt injectors from Motor Man Fuel Injection Supply. I believe one of the old Mustang injectors had a problem. After a few days, once the engine got up to operation temperature it had a misfire.

Motor Man sent me a set of F87E-B2B injectors. He said they are interchangeable with the F87E-B2A injectors, and I have no complaints. I have 2500 miles with them now.
