Ok...I have an 83 ranger with a 2.3L 4 cyl...I want to swap it to the 2.2L diesel...what am I looking at as far as difficulty? Will the wiring harnesses line up? And will I have to do anything with the trany, Motor mounts, or steering equipment? If anyone has any info please help...I really want the diesel lol....:icon_welder::icon_hornsup:

Probably not the wiring harness. As far as the rest go to an online auto parts store so you can compare part numbers for the add on's (motor mounts, radiator, etc....)

Try: rockauto.com, advanceautoparts.com, autozone.com, napa.com and others. What I did in the past is have 2 browsers up and running. Go to the web site on both then type in the 2 different engines on the choices. This way you can look at what works on both and what you'll need to change for the conversion.

Hope this helps.

As long as the bell bolts line up I think the trans can be re-used, you will want to go to higher rear end gears though.

Wiring will definitely not line up, the gasser harness will have plugs for things like injectors, coil, ignition module, etc that the diesel won't have or need, and not have plugs for things like the glow plugs that it will need.

I think your motor mounts will probably be ok if you get a 2.2L perkins. Engine mounts for stuff like that is usually fairly interchangeable. Check just to be sure. The diesel might need ones that are a bit stronger.

You will probably also need to do some fuel system work. A lot of diesels don't like having gasoline in the lines. The lines might not line up right either.

ok...thanks for the help...I don't know if I'm going to be able to do the swap then. My truck is an everyday driver and I can't afford to be without it that long...it would probably be easier and cheaper to just buy a diesel ranger.
