It all depends on your trucks year, your plans, all that. From what ive seen an heard, the early 90's mustang convertible motor mounts bolt right in a ranger, just you put the left mount on the right, an the right on the left, anf for the trans mount, you could either move the crossmember back, or make an extended mount. As for wiring, if your swapping a carb'd small block, then theres not much computer wise that you need to change. If your swapping in a Fuel Injected small block, then theres a lil more computer wise involved.
Lastly, for the rear, the stock 7.5 rear in the older rangers won't last that long against a small block, you would probably want to look for an 8 inch rear out of an Explorer or something like that
Really it's all up to you what you want to put in, theres so much involved and so many ways to do it.

There's a lot of different ways to go about this honestly. Some will tell you that a kit is a waste of money. FWIW, I am not using any "kit", but I am going to use swap headers. In my experience, usually anything aftermarket doesn't fit right, ever.

I believe Mustang Convertible mounts require drilling into the cross member. I am going the adapter plate route. It's all preference, all the info you could ever dream of has been covered already. Check out the info in the technical library and on RPS. There is enough info out there for me to at least not have many questions about the swap in general. MRE books also makes a V8 swap book, I bought it, but I can tell you that what's in that book is avaliable on the web for free. There is also some good info in the V8 section of this site as well.

7.5 should last a while, especially with an auto trans. My friend has a 7.5" in his Wagon with an EFI 5.0L / AOD and it hasn't been an issue. An 8.8 is swapable. Not sure what year your Ranger is?

IMO For EFI, you might as well get an entire donor vehicle.

Just start searching the site. There are a million ways to skin that cat. There is so much personal pref. I like the way I did it and others will think it's wrong. Look around, so some reading and ask some SPECIFIC questions and we'll all be more than will to help. My thoughts are that you don't need a kit. Good luck.
