i wanted to do some mods to my engine to increase bottom end WITHOUT CHANGING THE GEARS. I DONT WANT TO REV HIGHER I JUST WANT MORE TORQUE. just in case you didnt notice i dont want to change my gearing. the mods i was thinking of before are more for top end power but i need it down low like below 2500 rpms. any suggestions . its an 04 edge supercab 2wd and no i cant swap the engine either.

More torque is higher compression, longer stroke, force feeding fuel/air, lower gearing. Could try smaller wheels/tires.

YEP! Smaller tires. If what you are asking for was possible it would have been done from the factory! What size tires and gears are in there now?
Didja know the deisels in locomotives run at 600 rpm? That's right 600! But the pistons are bigger than five gallon buckets.. and there are LOTS of em!
Our little engines do quite well in stock configuration. Most times if there is a complaint it is because of something the owner has ALREADY done to his ride. All he has to do is UNDO that something!
Big JIm

ive been told that the 1.8's actually bump up the power band about 500 rpms. wrong direction. havent done any mods yet. i miss having carbed engines without computers they are so much easier to work with. not going to change tire sizes. most shops around here wont put a tire on thats not stock size and that would just increase my rpms. i think these engines have more potential than what ford gave them from the factory. they have been skimping on their 4's and 6 cyl engines from the 80's. if it had been a chevy v6 it probably would have had around 180hp and 230 ft/lbs. weve got a lot of hills around here thats why want the extra grunt.

Not sure but im gonna probly be rebuilding a 3.0 to swap out by spring next year and plan to use a lot of Tom's parts. Gonna call him tho and see what can work with what. For just a little more power tho the rockers seem to be a nice easy thing to do for a little more umph

U/D crank pulley and E-fan will help improve power and fuel economy.

Honestly, most of the mods for our engines will do much more for top end power than low end grunt. Underdrive pulleys and an e-fan are great mods as froggmann mentioned to make the truck feel livlier. They'll make a big difference in both mileage and seat of the pants power, especially if your truck's currently stock. The best option imo would be forced induction. Instant torque and hp across the power band with a roots or twin screw type supercharger. Tom Morana 's got an m112 intake, and an m90 intake in the works. Or you could try and track down a whipple.

These recurring "what pray tell can I do to the 3.0 Vulcan that hasn't already been done?... oh, and the mods must be as easy as changing the air filter" threads deserve their own forum... OTOH they often wind up being the most high-larious... that's probably why the mods let 'em run on... though the infamous K&N air filter and underdrive pulley claims are getting a bit long in the tooth... :icon_rofl:

Consensus: low-boost turbo or super-charger... or drop in a normally-aspirated and WIDELY available 5.0 V8

S10 came with 4.3L 165 HP v6 not very impressive

i know what u mean.

look man i have the exact same truck. all i can say is learn as you go and ask for help if you think something is bullshit it probably is. there is a lot of great advise in this forum. i did most of my mods just based on what i have learnd from all these guys. here is what i did to my truck and like i said its exactly what you have. i did the U/D pully, cat back exhaust, throttle cable mod, and i just bought a super chips flashpack tuner which i am still playing with. and soon to come 1:7 roller rockers from morana and mybe a larger throttle body.

On my '00 I did the MAF mod, the hot water bypass mod, swapped in a 180* 'stat, and opened up my airbox and I got very worthwhile gains in the low end. After doing those mods I also converted to an electric radiator fan, and although it doesn't perform like a V8, my engine runs much better than stock and I'm very satisfied with the power.
