For those looking to save a little money on fuel.......

I've been running an experiment in my '99 4x4 XLT (automatic) to try to save a little on gas. I've been tracking my MPG since January on a 28 mile commute that consists of about 85% highway and 15% city. I've been averaging right around 17.2 to 17.5 MPG. The interstate that I drive on has a speed limit of 75 mph, and typically I would drive in the 75 - 80 mph range. I decided to try slowing down a little to see if reducing the drag would make any real difference. After nearly two weeks of commuting at 65 mph instead of 75 my fuel economy is coming in at 20.7. It's amazing to me what a difference it made slowing down. I calculated that this change will save me somewhere around $25 per month. It's not a huge savings, but every little bit helps these days!

The fools in Congress (some of them at least) are debating a 55 mph national speed limit.

I noticed the same for my highway driving. I'm getting 40-42 in my Saturn even with the A/C.

According to a recent national poll ~80% of people responding to the poll
thought a 55mph speed limit was a bad idea.

It doesn'tsave much gas.

It does make more revenue for the various courts that administer traffic offences.

Frankly I think we could solve the energy crisis by harnessing the hot air from all the politicians.

Then after we've extracted the hot air render them for their fat
content to make bio-diesel and convert what remains into dog food and fertilizer.

Start with Al Gore, the blubber from that sack of hot air would keep my furnace
going for atleast a week.

it's owl gore.

Hey, don't get me wrong Al Gore is my idol

I want to have an electrically heated driveway to clear the snow
just like he and Tipper have....

He also has his own jet.

What was the line from that movie? Never pity a man with his own jet.
