Will the drive shaft from an 89 B2 with a 5 speed fit a 87 B2 with an auto ? I blew up the shaft on my 87 last night and have an 89 parts truck, but does the 5 speed have a different length/set up ? It does look different but I wasn't sure if thats just a newer design or something ?

Thanks

that year 5 speed is either an fm146 or an m50d, they are the same length as the automatic (a4ld) in the other truck. it should work just fine. the confusion is that some older 5 speeds were shorter (fm145)

Alright cool, I'll have to try it out.

I know they look (design wise ) but we'll see.

should be able to just measure it

Yea, I just wanted to ask before I pulled the other shaft out, plus the one on the 87 have give in the length, so it will stretch/contract, like the slip joint on my FSB.

Heres the shaft from my 87,

yeah, those shafts suck, what was ford smoking when the drew up the blue prints for that driveshaft? horrible design..

Well, it worked, the slip joint might be a little extended more than it was on the 89, but it fits and seems to function fine.

CV drive shaft, I went through 2 before I bought a double cardone with a slip in it.
The engineer who thought that up should have been left stranded 60 miles from the nearest anything, because his design broke when the going got tough.
I can't think of all the bad things that have happened to myself and people I either knew or know now because of that piece.
Explosive, could you please email me that picture. That has to be one of the best descriptions of a blown CV I have ever seen.
I would like your permission to post that picture on at least one other site I frequent. There was a drive shaft problem with one of the members there and no one could understand that those things break the cages and leave you stranded.
Thanks guys.

Yea you can use the image, it would always clunk in reverse, but I never saw the normal U-joints and said, we'll see what happens, and well. There is what happens. You can just save the img to your computer if you'd like, or I'll just E-mail you it tomorrow.

If you're going to make a point you might as well have decent pictures, took these for you to use,

Thank you for the pictures and permission to use them.
Where you live?
Tires look good on your truck, do they rub?

Ray

I'm in Michigan, and the tires do rub the bottom of the plastic liner for the fenders when turning. But my end plan for the truck is 6" lift with 33's.
