im done with holly carbs

Could well be an adjustment...but backfires can be caused by a number of things...I posted a link from Wikipedia or some other source a while ago...but here is the abbreviated version...

Common causes of backfires are:

Poor or unregulated engine timing is often a cause of intake backfires, but can also be responsible for exhaust backfires

Improper wiring in the ignition can also lead to timing issues and backfires

Low fuel pressure, clogged fuel filters, and weak fuel pumps could cause a severe lean air-to-fuel ratio during fuel injection

Missing or damaged catalytic converter can result in backfires out the tailpipe

my timeing is now dead on at 14 degrees advanced and its still doing it. that leading me to beleave its my air fuel mixture and/or fuel floats

so its better at idle. but i try to even move it and it just coughs, catches itself then backfires through the carb. i cant even move this thing with out it dieing and not wanting to start. when it dies all it does is crank. wait 15 mins and it starts right up.....till you try and move it

i think i found my problem, i pulled the accl pump and is falling apart. the little rubber nipple fell apart in my hand. i tryed putting a new one in, and it came apart, tryed the last one and IT fell apart. so now my carb is pretty much fed in the a.

Hmmm...that might be a problem...hope that is your final answer...:)

well i got it in, it runs great but it coughs sometimes then catches itself and backfires through the carb. im going to be re doing the timeing, airfuel mixture and float levels just to make shure i got it all figured out. its better but its not 100%
