im done with holly carbs

Holley carbs, I bought one, it DESTORIED MY PROJECT CAR!!!!!

I had a holley street avenger, the carb worked great, the stupid fuel line that came with the carb was shit. The provided fuel clamps were shit.

After driving it a few miles, the fuel line just popped off the supplied "T" and pumped out fuel as it died, then it caught on FIRE.... I had a dry chemical, put out the fire and ruined my project...

Carb worked great, what a shame.

thats what im scared of.....

Give it to me...:icon_thumby:

I'd even pay shipping...

im tempted at this point

well now the screw for the float adjustment needs rethreaded beacuse it has brass stuck between the threads..

my float adjustment screws threads are toast......can i buy just the screw?

I may have some extras laying around.......................let me know if you cant find any.

my buddy had a couple, got it running, got the float level set idles great. i have a dead throttle. i can idle and move; give it any gas and it just coughs and dies. got it to move and drove home and it backfired through the carb and caught fire. i managed to get it out with no damage. what in the same hell am i doing wrong?:pissedoff::pissedoff::pissedoff::pissedoff:

holly kills the competition i haven't found another carb better not even the demon carbs or the new summit carbs both were based off the holly

im not shure on what to think of holly. i called there service line and got no help so yea

ok so i need someone to shed some light on this. it idles like it should, but try to give it gas and it dies. if i manage to keep it running it just backfires through the carb bad. how could i fix this?

Could be air fuel mixture (too lean?), but also your timing could be advancing too far and firing right before the intake valve closes. A sticky intake valve could cause this as well. Maybe something is stuck in a jet causing a lean mixture at throttle? I thought maybe accelerator pump adjustment (too much at once?), but doesn't seem like it fits the bill.

I'd agree...timing could be off...try rotating the distributor about ten degrees to see if it makes any difference...and if you have a manual choke try closing it and hold it closed to see if the truck revs up...could also be a number of other things like plug wires arching out...

When I was putting mine back together I had a very similar issue...but mine turned out to be plugged with residue gas crud and a good cleaning solved mine...since yours is rebuilt I doubt that's the problem though...oh, and I found my plug wires were pulled half-way up the boot...and I had a few other minor things wrong...but it would not run other than idle with the choke closed...

damn lol, wouldnt that suck a big floppy one if the timing was ur whole problem from square one

got the timeing set, got the airfuel so the truck is happy but im still haveing the same issue:annoyed:

well i adjusted the acclerator pump and it made a world of diffrence. but it still has a dead throttle when trying to give it gas and it backfires through the carb. im thinkin the air fuel mixture and float levels need adjusting
