i recently did a 4.0 swap in my 90 stx 4x4 (original was 2.9) and yesterday the pins that hold the shifter in place broke. the shifter now wobbles everywhere and i drained the fluid and found a problem, when i bought it the guy told me it was all original, but after reading the tech page i dont think it is. The one i have has the hydrolics going into the tranny and requires a special tool to remove it. is this an internal slave? i know engines not tranny's, but my dad has a 94 xlt 4x4 and his is the same way cant go look cause he is in OR and im in UT so any help in identfying this would be helpfull so i can get the right parts to fix it, cause the 90 2.9 came w/ the mitsu trans i think

Rangers 1988-up use an internal slave cylinder that connects at the side
of the trans, the 4.0's use the same system.

Rangers from '85-88 connect at the top of the trans and don't use
that release connector.

1993-up use a similar but non-compatible connector that is
color coded yellow (or gold), while your 1990 will be black
(possible faded to purple) some '88-89's were red (compatible with the black).
