Illegal?!?!

Wow I have read this entire thread and came to the conclusion that everyone has their opinions about how to drive in snow, mud flaps and the tail gate down. I live in IN and experience my first IN winter in 6yrs this last winter. I always cleaned off my hood, headlights, tail lights and license plate BEFORE leaving my drive way or parking space. To me it is only common sense. That is my 2 cents. If you do not like it then form your own opinion and argue away.

Dude, my truck is not a fashion statement, it is a TOOL.

what tool it is on any given day varies.

It has been a hammer, a tractor, wheelbarrow, shipping container, anvil,
dumptruck and quite often a "boom box", picnic table and even a bedroom
(both the bed and the cab, both for sleeping AND for "other" activity)

But I have never "waxed" my truck and if someone came near it with a can of car wax I'd probably break both of their arms.

I will freely admit to being somewhat pathological about keeping the glass clean... windex inside and out and RainX on the outside. and to actually having a spray bottle of ArmorAll to wipe the dust off the dash.

The last person that accused me of putting diamond plate bedrail caps on my truck as a "Fashion accessory" is still choking coal dust out of their sinuses
The coal I burn FALLS into the bed from 12feet up and is in lumps the size of a tennis ball... ever seen what a 1lb lump of coal will do to an unprotected bedrail?

Shit, as soon as it stops raining I'm going to sand what little remains of the
clearcoat off the hood and spray it with a can of ultraflat black I bought last month... why? I'm tired of the glare off the hood when driving westbound in the afternoon

My truck is wearing it's fourth (or fifth, I lost count...) bed and is on it's third set of doors, and while the doors match each other they don't match the truck... the bed only kinda matches the truck, it's charcoal grey, but my truck is an '87 and the bed is off a '91

I don't have an objection to sweeping snow off before driving but there are people who don't understand that snow CAN accumulate on a moving vehicle.

Hell I remember recently suprising someone who was born and raised in florida
with the fact that where I live we get cold weather (that includes frozen water in various forms) that comes and then doesn't go away for four or five months.

Generally speaking any snow that falls here after Thanksgiving will not completely disappear until after Easter.

I just read the last 2 pages and have no idea what the hell happened to this thread?

wax? snow in Florida? police with snow wax and coal in their hat?

It's the summer time, how are we so passionate about snow this time of year anyways? It's hot as balls outside... Damn Al-Gore for inventing global warming to advance his political campaign!!!

One can only wonder...

I really don't pay much attention to my plate as much as the brake and head lights. People's plates are going to be snowed over in the winter, I don't think anyone really pays much mind to it. There probably have been times I have neglected to make sure it's 100% visible.

holy crap this is a long thread. not even going to read it all.

not sure if this has been mentioned, but there is a good reason why you can't (or shouldn't) drive with your tailgate down, and no load on it.

unhook your tailgate cables (the ones that keep it steady when lowered). pull back on your tailgate as you open it. not sure what degree it is exactly, but you'll know when you find it, haha.

now think about what would happen if those cables broke (stress from the tailgate bouncing up and down constantly) when driving down the road.

Dude, my truck is not a fashion statement, it is a TOOL.

If you're suggesting a truck can't look good and be functional at the same time, you're insulting a hell of a lot of people. I suppose by your "logic", anyone who runs their truck through a carwash is a "poser".

That's as ridiculous as saying people should not wax their sports cars if they're not going to do burnouts every two seconds and drive 150 mph.

To apply wax would assume I have "paint", "OBJECTION: Facts not in evidence!"

At this point in the conversation I'll tell you that if it irritates you to THINK I implied that people who wash their trucks are "posers" feel free to believe it, and be upset thereby... I don't really think of it that way, but if that's what I have to do for a little Schadenfreude (well not exactly, but...) tonight I'll let you believe it.

Truth is most of the time I just don't give a damn.

Generally speaking I'm MUCH more concerned with function than appearance.

I've probably washed my truck... only six or seven times... since 1996, and probably five of those times I was primarily interested in washing
spilled oil out of the bed.... and only washed the rest of the truck because I already had the pressure washer running.

I have been known to "soap" my truck before driving in the rain...

But since you've suggested wax mabey I'll wax the license plate:)

When you say "Dude, my truck is not a fashion statement, it is a TOOL", that implies that a truck can only be one or the other, with nothing in between. If that's not what you meant, that's fine. Everyone is free to do whatever they want with their own vehicle after all. And in your case, I see why trying to maintain the exterior appearance would be futile.

It's cool. It takes more than that to irritate or upset me. :)

Finally someone who "Gets" it...
