I picked up a lifted 86 a cpl weeks ago. The p.o swapped in the ol 2.8 with tfi. I cleaned up the carb set the timing to 12 degrees and everything was running good. Then yesterday i ran out of gas, put new in drove it 6 miles to my house then i shut it off. I go back outside to leave 30mins later and it started fine but when id give it gas it had a major loss of power. It wouldnt hardly take off in first lol. I babied it to my mom and dads garage and shut it off. Now it will only run for a cpl of seconds and shut back off. Any Ideas? Im leaning on the Tfi Module but not 100% sure.

Could have a clogged carb that needs rebuilt, could be the TFI module.

To get rid of the TFI moduel set-up do the Duraspark set-up (if can legally do it in your state). This is also the most costly to do, I would start simple.

Sounds like what was happening to my dads before the his TFI module went out.

But also sounds like a clogged fuel filter, you ran out of fuel and it was probably sucking in rust from the tank (the in-tank filler could have gone bad causing this). This also happened to my dads truck too. Check your fuel filter.

I would do cheapsest to most expensive, filter, TFI, etc......

I wanna place bets on your filter if you havent already changed it.

Sounds like it needs a fuel filter. Hopefully it didn't tear up the pump. They're pretty cheap and easy to replace though.
