I've got an '87 Ranger with a 2.9L V6. I've rebuilt the heads and have just finished assembling the top of the motor. During tear down, I cracked the connector plug to the ignition coil. I cannot remember which wire goes where, (I should have written it down). Looking at the top of the coil, does the red wire connect to the terminal on the right of the secondary- green wire with the yellow stripe to the left, or vice versa? Secondary being the terminal to the distributor cap. Also, which is the negative primary: green/yellow or the red wire? Conventional wisdom would suggest that a red wire is always positive. However, this is not always the case.

If 2 different people could confirm this, that would be great.

Thanks

Red is positive. Dark Green / Yellow is tach. Use the clip on the plug as a reference to see what wire goes where.

Red goes to the pos on the coil and the little condenser(radio noise) green to the other side i believe green to the front of the truck I would go look but too lazy right now I cant rember if the coil has a + or a - on it. The big black wire goes to the cap.

The plug connector is broken, gone, non existent. I've got two stray wires with their terminal ends and don't where they go. Which is the negative primary lead on the coil: is it left or right of the secondary?

haven't been out in the garage, but I will check for you later tonight if no one gets back to you by then.

I found a new connector at Carquest for $12 I think it was, they had to order it but it got there in a day.

Does that help?

That's perfect Earl43P! Awesome, thanks.

Also, thanks for the tip on a new connector, RustedRanger.
