Hi all,

I own a 2.8 ranger that's been imported all the way over to sunny England.

Trying to get more familiar with the truck and looking for some advice as info on the American cologne engines is thin on the ground over here. Also new to an old carb engine so learning my way round them.

Could someone confirm this truck has had the TFI removed? Also, looks to be some stuff blanked off on the carb, is this feedback stuff that had been blanked on the standard carb?

Currently toying with the idea of a rebuild as the engine is tired, and I'd like to keep the truck for many years to come. Would a different/better carb free up some more power? Over here in the UK webers are a common option and people seem to use a 38dgas weber on European cologne engines, any advice.

Thanks,
Joe

Looks like its already been durasparked.

As for the carb...im not familar with the feedback 2150's but that kinda looks like one. If it were me id locate a mechanical (pre feedback) 2150 to replace it with since the other electro-emission shit is gone.

The 2150 2bbl is really a good carb. Its not gonna flow like a 750 double pumper but will feed a 2.8 just fine....and they are super simple to tune and rebuild.

That 2.8 has a duraspark ignition. Carb looks like a 2150 not a feed back type. I don't see a TPS indicating a feedback. The plugged off vacuum ports are for the thermactor/egr system.

but the weber 38 is a fun carb too

https://www.carburetion.com/CarbNumber.asp - type in E37E-AEA

"This carburetor was made by Ford. It is a F2-2150-TPS . This carburetor has a part number of E37E-AEA and used on 83-84 Ford trk w/TPS"

Do you have any of the stuff hanging off the back of the carb, a large round solenoid?

Very possible that your carb was born with your truck. Used to be pretty common to use the factory cab and add a manual metering block rather than source an earlier carb, there is really not a major benefit to either method. Is there a venturi size stamped on the carburetor body somewhere...? 1.08, 1.21, 1.23, etc? 1.08 would be the correct size for your engine.

Thanks for the advice all.

In terms of getting a bit more power (I accept these engines don't have a vast amount to give) is there any upgrades?

Any benefit to a different cam teamed with the rebuilt 2150 carb?
