I recently aquired another front diff with 4.56s to complete my gear swap. Before I pull the old and put the new up I am putting an Aussie in...here is where I ran into a problem. I have knocked the roll pin out of the carrier but the crosspin is only notched on the ends and it hits the ring gear before there is enough room to slide the axle in to remove the c-clip. The ring gear is not grinded either. How would I go about removing this? It looks like it'd be way too much to grind off the gear to get the pin out. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

since there are no c-clips, you might just remove the entire carrier and remove the ring. as long as you put the same shims back on the same side when putting the carrier back in, you should be fine. as long as you dont do anything to the pinion, theres really nothing to worry about.

Remove the main caps, set the shims aside and mark them so you know where they go, and remove the carrier. You'll have to remove the ring gear from the carrier, install your locker, put the ring gear back on. Use red locktight on all the bolts when reassembling and re install in the reverse order.

Thanks guys, but it looks like a c clip to me, maybe im overlooking something I'll give it another look tomorrow and see how that goes.

no c-clips. whem i removed the shafts, they slid right out. the other shaft left in there should slide right out as well.

Well to be honest I'm not sure if I even tried pulling that axle out, I just assumed there was a C clip on it, thanks c note you've been great dealing with since the start.

im sorry this has become an ordeal for you. any way i can help... jut ask and ill do what i can.

like i said earlier, just dont mess with the pinion and you should be alright.

btw, have you tried to remove the carier yet?

No I haven't tried removing the carrier yet, I will tomorrow and I'll let you know how it goes.

what year is it? if this is a 98 up then yea the axles pull right out and you can just pop out the carrier, if this is a 97 and older TTB front pig then the stub shaft for the passengerside shaft has a clip on it that you will have to get out before the stub will come out.

Its the 98+ IFS style d35. There will be small circular snap clips that will stay attached to the axles themselves, that might be what you are seeing.

Yea that sounds about right, doesn't look like an axle c clip, thanks again guys now I can get the ball rolling.

yea, as long as the cv shafts are pulled out of it then the carrier should just come out. The CV shaft actually slides into the spider, or in the soon to be case the locker.
