i live in las vegas...... trust me thats nothing
I can appreciate your comment but the reason I asked was because I wanted to upgrade my 15 in rims to 16 in and was wondering if I did this would I get ANY type of ground clearance increase from the bottom of my differential to the ground.
I was told no it won't help, now I know the car rims are EXTREME but unless this car is modified some other way then it is definitely benefiting from MORE ground clearance by using these huge rims.
For each inch of tire and rim size that you go up you gain 1/2 inch of ground clearance.
The reason: The hub is where the rim attaches to the truck, half of your inch of extra diameter is below that hub picking your truck farther up off the ground. The other half is ABOVE the hub, sticking up into your wheel well and doing nothing for your clearance.
The key point here is that the size of the wheel and tire COMBINATION has to increase. As stated before, if you go from a 215/75/14 to a 215/70/15 you haven't gained anything because your overall combination is the same diameter.
