Idle problem

Hi, I have a 2001 Ranger with the 2.5 I4 in it. Recently I have replaced the IAC, and the EGR. Now say your cruisin down the road and you go to step the clutch in ok, the rpms climb with my foot not on the pedal, or if I am coming up to a stop light and step the clutch in same result UNTIL, the truck comes to a complete stop/ I depress the gas pedal slightly. Then USUALLY the rpms drop back to normal. Is there a throttle positioning sensor somewhere?? Any suggestions are very welcome.

I have a 94 with a 2.3 and had the exact same problem. We ended up replacing all the sensors you mentioned but then discovered it was actually my coolant temp sensor. It was malfunctioning and sending a bad reading to the computer saying that the coolant was cold therefore jacking up the rpm's. Just throwin in my 2 cents might wanna check that out first cause they're cheap.

I have a 1995 2.3 with manual trans and had that problem a couple or years ago. It was the mas air flow sensor.

Does anyone have any other suggestions? It is not the mass air I found out, now the temp sensor, I'm not sure if it is bad or not, but I had it plugged into and it wasn't throwing any kind of weird readings. Any help??????

Another thing you can look into. The throttle position sensor (TPS) caused a similar symptom on my '94 2.3L. The TPS can be tested with a volt/ohm meter; you're looking for a steady change in the ohm reading through the entire movement of the throttle.
