i have a 97 ranger 4.0L OHV that i have owned for about three years. when i bought the truck i noticed that it had a bit of a miss or small backfire at idle. i didnt think much of it figuring i could do a tune up and it would run just fine. after changing plug wires, plugs, adding an aftermarket intake, a new MAF and new throttle position sensor it still does this. in addition to the cool air intake i welded up a flowmaster right behind the catalytic converter and added a JET chip. i decided to just say the hell with it and deal. trhee years later however it is time to do something about it. i just bought a new car so i now have another set of wheels to drive while i build up the engine in my truck. i want to get it running right before i start so that if i do have problems in the future i know what not to blame it on. has anyone had a similar problem or has any information on this gripe.
in additon to this i have another problem that has been bugging me. when i come up to a stop light the engine maintains about 2kRPM for about 30 seconds before iding dow to around 1100. is this normal? waht is an average idle speed for this engine, and what can i do to fix it?
any help would be greatly appreciated.
