I'm looking to order a new IAC valve. I see two choices. One that comes with a round plastic black thing, like the one on the engine, and one without that. Both are listed as valid parts. The one without is cheaper. What does that thing do and is it necessary? Here are pics of the two.

What are the brands? The guys say Motorcraft or Hitachi are the ones you want. The others can be problematic down the road.

Second the above. Only Motorcraft or Hitachi.

What goes bad in one?

Its a solenoid so coil can short(0 ohms) or break(no connection)

+1 on Motorcraft or Hitachi
Wrecking yard Motorcraft IAC Valve is better than 3rd part new IAC Valve

The black plastic cap covers a vent, you need that on any IAC Valve

If you pick up a used one, it wouldn’t hurt to clean it;

Fortunately I'm thinking mine works. In the meantime, I've been trying to find a Motorcraft or Hitachi IAC valve. I'm finding Motorcraft numbers, but not valves available. I'm not finding any Hitachi numbers yet.

I got most of my spares off of pickapart places a few years ago, it isn't as easy there now, they want to charge for the gravel in your boots when you walk off the parking lot
