Please help identify this engine and component. I was told this was a new engine to the truck. I have purchased a new iac and replaced it based off it being a 1993 Ford Ranger 3.0. However I cannot find an engine diagram or picture of someone else's that looks the same.

And next what is this sensor? And where would I plug it in? From my search it looks like an ACT but shouldn't that be by the air filter?

Please let me know if you need different views. Thanks!

I can't tell you for sure but that looks exactly like the act sensor on my 85 2.3.

That is the intake temp sensor. No, it would not be closer to the air filter.

Thanks. I know he said he had the motor replaced. This helps a lot.

So where should I proceed from here? Get a 91 wiring harness?

Thanks again guys. I imagine since this is a 91 engine in a 93 that I would need to replace the 93 computer with a 91 and replace the all the harnesses. I've searched through the site but can really only find the reverse of my situation. Besides the computer what wiring harnesses am I looking for? Are there any major problems I will run into?

Thanks again.

Well are you having any issues?

Yes. The truck will start when it is cold outside (below freezing). Then it will loop when idling and eventually die. And will not start again unless I let it sit for a while. If I try to drive it right away it will die and won't start.
If it is above freezing outside it runs and drives fine.

I haven't driven it at highway speeds or for long distances.

I imagine that not having an intake temp sensor hooked up could be causing this. But I have no clue where to hook it into.

I know on the 98-00 3.0's, the IAT sensor was located in the rubber intake tube that led from the MAF to the throttle body. I'm not sure when they started putting them there, but it might be worth your time to see if there's an unused electrical connection on the 93 harness near the front of the engine. If the connector is on the wiring harness, it would be easy to just get an IAT sensor for a 93, and insert it into the intake tube, vs switching out the entire harness and PCM.
