How can I identify a manual trans I have? Its 4 speed with a super low 1st gear. The trans case itself is extremely short. I have seen one on here recently and I think it may be what I have. It has a shaft on the left side where the transfer case shifter pivots on.

Which one of your vehicles is it in? Or what is it from?

If it was from a ford, its most likely a np435. there is a picture of one on broncodata.com i believe. If its outta a chevy i think they used sm420 and sm465. Im not 100% sure on the chevy ones tho.

Im wanting to say it was the NP435. It came in my ranger and I blew the motor and made my stroker. No idea what it came out of.

Im gonna say it was the 435 due to the way the shifter retaining ring looked. It had two small bolts on it to hold the cup in the top. I never really got a good look at it when I pulled it out but it looked a lot like the picture above
