Identifying 2.3 vs. 2.5?

I just picked up a '90 xl, the motor was replaced with a low milage 4cylinder.Im wondering if there is an easy way to determine if its a 2.3 or 2.5....it seems to have a little more power than my last 2.3, but this motor supposedly only has 24k on it.The only difference i noticed was that it has an aluminum oil pan, and some of the vaccum routing was messed with, so im assuming it may be a newer 2.3 or possibly 2.5.Any help?

the late 2.3 had some power improvements, maybe u have one of those

1995-up 2.3 "Lima" engines have an oil pump that is directly driven by the timing belt, instead of indirectly driven by an accessory shaft and a "dummy distributor"

So the first check is to look at the block by the lower end of the drivers side
accessory mounting bracket, if you have a dummy distributor you DO NOT
have a 2.5.

i looked today, and i can look past the coilpack and see a hexhead where the disty would be...im assuming this is just a low milage newer 2.3
