Before I pulled my motor out of my Ranger, I was trying to get it to idle and run better. I put a TPS, IAC, MAF, coil, air filter, plugs and wires in it. The TPS got the idle down from about 2500 to about 1500. I can't get it to come down any further, however, when I unplugged the IAC, it idled down to about 1000 and actually started running smoother and rev better. No check engine light with it plugged in or not. I unplugged the TPS and the light came on so I know the light works. My question is, what's IAC's actual job and what the hell is going on with the possessed thing?! I changed out the aforementioned items one at a time starting with the TPS, then the IAC. It idled the same with the old IAC as it does with the new one. Ideas?

the iac is a idle air control. it baypasses the tb to get air into the motor when at idle. sounds like its stuck open. its just a little plunger that when opened up lets air pass by. you said you put one on. was it new or used? might need to clean it if its used. pull it off anf use some carb cleaner.

It is brand new. It idled the same with the old one and the new one, however, like I said, when unplugged, the motor idles down and more smoothly.
