What transmission do you have? Standard being manual(?), if you have a M5OD-R1, no since you can't change the bellhousing to a 4.0L pattern. I wouldn't recommended either, it probably wouldn't hold for too long.

It would probably be a little easier if you were able to get a complete donor for the swap..

ya that would be nice but the thing is theres a ranger where im from thats a 4.0 auto tranny and i have my 2.3 5 spd i was thinking of buying it, throwing my lift on it and putting my 5 spd on it

You'll need another transmission case to swap your gears and internal parts into becahse the bellhousing is a cast part of the transmission case and is not removeable.

and the 2.3 bellhousing is completely different from the 4.0 bellhousing
(the starter is on the opposite side of the engine for example)

You'll also need a 4.0 flywheel, Clutch and starter motor specific to a 4.0 with a manual trans because those parts off a 2.3 won't work on a 4.0

And I'll say this again because it's important the 4.0 auto trans starter
is different from the 4.0 maual trans starter.
