although i'll proudly admit that i'm partial to fords, i think of myself as being able to appreciate a fine vehicle regardless of make.
that being said, my cousin has a 2000 chevy 2500 silverado with the 454 big block. solid running truck with tons of room to do whatever you'd like with it. rides a bit rough but it is a work truck.
if i were just looking for something to play with, i'd look for something lik my friends 1981 f-150 ranger. 351 windsor, flaresides, automatic, four wheel drive, an absolutely gorgeous truck. PLENTY of room to work with under the hood. i've offered to but if off of him for my own project but he just won't sell it, that bastard
