hello everyone, i have a 1995 Ford Ranger Ext. cab v-6 5sp. And i want to put an Explorer 8.8 rear end underneath her! I was wondering if this was a complete bolt in or what. I want to take my 7.5 out and basicly bolt the 8.8 right in its place. If it does'nt bolt right in what do i have to do to make it fit.

A ranger 8.8 will bolt in. The explorer has spring under and will need spring mounts welded on top, and shock mounts welded on.

i have the 8.8 axle off my 93 but all the mounts have been cut off. i ended up throwing in a eplor. rear, setup was easy and worked great costed me a junkyard axle and some spring perches. the only thing was that i couldn't find one with 4.10 so i had to settle for 3.73's

he already has a 28 spline 8.8 under his truck. the explorer upgrade would be for the 31 spline axle.

funkingonutz, you got it right. the spring perches need to be cut off the bottom and welded back on to the top of the axle tube. your rangers shock mounts also need to be welded to the axle tube since the explorers shock mounts are integral with the axle spring plate, which you wont be able to re-use.

get some scrap, weld it, weld it and weld it some more. take it to a welder and ask him what he thinks. then go back and practice some more and listen to whatever advice he gave you. post pics up here, we can help you out too. just practice and get good at it.

stick would probably be the best way to go. a 230V mig might cut it as well.

if your in a bind you can use a flip kit and two left side explorer spring plates to make it a bolt in. though it will only cost 50 -80 bux if you take it to a local welder....pretty easy to do really.

or just bolt a piece of channel across the rails behind the axle and put the shocks on the sway mounts...that works good cause it puts the shocks on the same side of the axle at whatever angle you want....i prefer it that way as it keeps the truck from jumping left or right when you hit these big chuckholes at 80 mph on our lovely detroit freeways. the factory fore/aft shock setups are gay....just depends on whether you need the tire under there or where you want your fuel tank...

ok thanks, yeah i was going to stick weld it, i just learned how to weld over this summer, (i burn metal, and i dont feel like burning a hole in my axle tube.) Im just going to have to practice more!! thats all, im picking up the 8.8, 31 spline from a junkyard when i get the 200.00 dollars for it (should be next week)
