Someone is offering me a 1993 Ranger EX Cab 4X4 for $2000. He says every other week it needs power steering fluid, there is a lot of play in the shifter though it shifts well. He needs to replace the 4X4 button to get it to work ABS light is on and truck will slide a little in rain. I drove it, runs very strong, straight body clean interior. Is this reasonable?

I would not pay 2k for it, no.

But what motor does it have? Any pics? Why is it leaking PS fluid?

Honestly? I wouldn't go over $1,500

i would pay about 1500 and my truck has a lot of pay in the shifter too but it shifts fine. the power steering shouldnt be to hard to fix

ALSO... the clutch releases VERY high is that a bad thing?

pedal travel is irrelevant to clutch wear. The system is hydraulic based.

ok. take the blue book value then minus cost of repair for a shop to do for every ding you do not like. such as the abs sensor, 20$ in parts and 80$ in shop that is minus 100$
sloppy shifter needs Shifter Bushing Replacement, looks like 70-80$ in parts and 160 in labor to replace. so we are at 340 of of bluebook value. i have no idea how much it will cost to fix the 4x4 button. but it is going to be another 200$ atleast. if you are seeing where i am going. and what ever it costs to replace the leak in power steering.

use all of this in the negotiation and you will pay a lower price.

well start it at good condition value. because kbb's does not take in consideration all of possible repair costs.

I believe I'll offer him $1500 and i'll go halves on the 4x4 switch as long as it works.

Sounds like my truck. :D

I wouldn't pay over 1200 for one in that condition honestly. I had mine for sale at 1800 a while ago, but that was when the oil wasn't leaking, power steering wasn't leaking, rear axle was still good, and the horn worked. Oh, and it was before I got into two accidents.
