I got a 1990 ranger 4x4 2.9 5 speed and the door it says trans code M. I'm afraid its gonna be in need of a tranny swap sooner than later. my question is do I have to go back with the same tranny or is there any other models that will fit? I'm sure the info is on here but I couldn't find it using search maybe someone can point me in the right direction. thanks a lot for any info.

That's the m50d. Find one for a v6. Iirc all years with that code fit, but the 2.3l has a different bellhousing from the 3.0 and 4.0 liters.

3.0 also has a different pattern.

2.9 and 4.0 share a pattern, but the 4.0 is geared higher in 1, 2, and 3.
