i was driving on dry tar for about 4-5 miles between the feild and home, figured it was no big deal and i was in 4hi and hubs locked in. went to down shift from 4th to 3rd and it did but the t-case popped into neutral. its a bw1354E w/o a shift motor... but i got it to go into 4hi but the front output shaft is free like its in 2hi and i cant turn it out of 4hi. what do you guys think is wrong? i have no freaking idea.

worded the easy way- t-case is in 4hi but its acting like its in 2hi. and i cant get the t-case out of 4hi, it keeps snapping back towards 4hi.

You didn't ask a question, but I would venture a guess that your transfer case is shot. Driving in 4wd on hard pavement is a no-no. Guaranteed to stress things and likely to break the weakest link in the drivetrain.
