i think it's dead...

So, youre talking about taking the top off the carb? Or the carb off the intake? From there is it hard to replace the secondary throttle diaphragm?

I would remove the carb from the intake, and then work on it.

Unless you are familiar with this model carb removing just the top could be an issue with parts dropping off and worst case dropping down into the intake

Take a few pictures so the hose hook ups, so they are not a mystery when it comes time to re-install.

The stock 2bbl on the 2.0l was an Asian 2bbl, it will have an ID tag on it and you will need that number to get the correct rebuild kit if you want to replace the accelerator pump diaphragm.

I thought the original carb was replaced with a 2150??? Those are very similar to my carb and I've worked on it at least three times roadside to remove gunk from the jets and to adjust the float. Not hard at all and if you happen to drop something into the carb that ends up in the intake then I'd take the carb off...but otherwise getting the seal on the base is not so easy as on the top.

If you are still running the Asian carb then I'm not sure...never took mine apart so I have no idea whether it is similar or not.

Up to you really. If you don't feel comfortable working on it on the engine then by all means take it off. They are not that complicated, but mysterious until you open them up and see what's inside.

Uhh... No 2150 here, lol... Still the stock carb...

But i was given another 2bbl carb, off an 87 dodge dakota,3.9 v6... All i know right now is that the butterflies are the same size and open simultaneously, and that it has four wires coming off, and that it worked on the other truck...

Will it work?

It will probably work...problem is always finding ways to adapt it to the linkage and the intake...but I'm sure someone has done it at some point.

My 5200 had an electric choke and a fast idle kickdown after it warmed up...neither one of them are hooked up and it starts and runs fine...idles a bit high but it is adjustable...and that is the main thing to look for...how much can you tweak it without any feedback or electrical wiring to worry about...

But those OEM carbs are terrible...if you can replace it you'd probably be better off...

Its a holley 6280 carb, with a mixture control solenoid and an electronic choke...

Apparently that carb works on a 4 cylinder engine...looks like it might work...but getting an adapter would be the first step...

I found one thread where a guy put one on his 4 banger and didn't hook up the electronics and it worked just fine without them...so that means there is some adjustment that you can play with and not have to rely on computer assistance to operate it.
