I think i messed up.

Hey everyone, I decided to make an intake setup for my truck, I found a sweet little MAF adapter, but when i was putting the element into the adapter, i accidentally touched it. Now the truck really is usless unless I unplugg the MAF. Did touching the element ruin the sensor?

Probably didn't ruin it but some oil from your hands could cause the sensor to give off bad readings. Hit it with some MAF sensor cleaner, let it air dry then reinstall it into the truck.

the sensors element is protected by the metal case around it...i doubt you damaged it.

are you sure the sensor is facing the right way and inserted properly into the airflow? i would put my original intake back on and see if it runs properly with that.

yeah, I tried cleaning it to no avail, maybe that POS adapter is the problem, im going to try reinstalling the stock setup and see if it'll run. Does there need to be some space between the cone filter i installed and the MAF setup? right now it's hooked right up to the adapter. argh this is frustrating.

yeah wick, but i took the element out of the stock casing. maybe ill go take a picture. brb.

if there is an air leak at the maf or after it(closer to the engine) then it will run like crap, check for leaks first

the element is not exposed when you unbolt it from the housing. its inside the smaller metal housing that stick down into the airstream.

seems to run fine with the stock setup. I don't understand why it won't run with my other setup... possible I need a little bit of space between the filter and the MAf?

Yeah wick, did you look at the picture tho? I removed the part with the plug all by itself, 2 t-20 torx security bits. the actual element was removed from it's housing and placed in another that is a 3" tube. on mine when you remove it you can see the element which looks like the inside of a lightbulb.

i see it now, it might be too close to the filter, either that or you have too much oil on the filter and it is messing up the maf

i saw the photo. the part you saw was not the element.

it could be a problem with the meter being too close to the filter. there does need to be enough space for the air to smooth out prior to entering the meter. or like kevin said, maybe you were leaking unmetered air.

i would just leave the stock setup in. there are no power or economy gains to be had with an aftermarket warm-air intake. they cause nothing but problems...as your now discovering. your also very likely to LOOSE power and economy with an exposed filter element like that.

yeah since it works fine in stock form, i'll assume that the MAF is OK im going to try and put the filter further away from the MAF and see what happens, thanks guys.
