ok i searched and it was just a blank page :dunno: but i finally got my 87 running and now this is what it's doing. i cleaned the tank, replaced the ign. control box, changed plugs and it will sit and idle perfect for about 5 mins or so then die. if you try and give it gas it bogs it down, so i pulled the rubber fuel line off the pump and seen no fuel. i'm thinking bad pump, well went and got one last night. just got done taking the old off and fuel goes everywhere :icon_confused: so do you think the pump is bad? i'm going to replace it anyway, but what if anything else could be doing this? it's 2.0 carb by the way.

not sure how the carb is set up on these but it sounds like you need to take the carb apart and clean it out and clean out the jets for it cause when you step on the gas it sounds like the fuel isnt getting there so the air is leaning it out too much.

hmmm maybe the carb. truck has set 10 years and that was a "new" carb

Do you mean new as in it was replaced 5yrs ago while the truck was sitting or it is one from a junkyard? if the carb has an internal filter change that too.

probably all manner of varnished up and clogged up. Will probably need completely rebuilt, plunger, jets and all.

I agree. clean and rebuild and it will make a world of diffrence clear up 99% of your problems

Take all the rubber pieces out of the carb and soak everything metal overnite in carb cleaner or acetone blast it with water then air. Be careful when removing the jet/s they are tight but you need to to clean it out properly. Lay all the parts on the bench the way you took it apart so you know what parts to replace the kit comes with extra stuff just use the parts in the kit you need for your carb. Dont mess with the throttle shaft or butterfly/s you will regret it. I like to glue a sheet of 180 grit sandpaper to a flat piece of plywood to surface the base of the carb just enough to make it flat and bolt it down slow and even good and snug not to tite and after a couple of warm ups snug it again.

ok my local auto parts doesn't carry the kit for the carb so....i'm at a halt for now. this is what i'm working with..........................

in this pic isn't that plunger for idle control supposed to be touching the throttle?

i'm going to try and find a kit a clean it up. i'm not paying $500 for a new carb! oh and the choke hasn't tried to come on since the first night i got it to crank. may have busted the plunger?:dunno:

try looking online at savage yard inventory.Or the ranger stations tech library,in Carbs & Fuel Injection systems category section, has Motorcraft 2150 Rebuild step by step

cleaned the carb and same thing. would the idle speed control computer make it do this if it has went bad?

ok when i pull the line off the pump shouldn't it have fuel come out of it? it still doesn't. i'm going to try and clean out the lines down the rail, seems like it may be clogged :dunno:

figured it out..................the fuel sending unit is bad :yahoo: now does anyone know where to get 1 as none of my auto parts stores carry this unit since its a carb truck.
