i need laptop help please

I have an hp g60 laptop its about three years old. Every once in a while when I turn it on the screen will turn gray and it won't do anything so I restart it and it works fine. Now it is always like this. When I try to restart it the same things happens. It doesn't even seem to boot up at all. Anyone know what is wrong? Thanks

is this after the bios or before?
have you tried plugging in an external monitor to see if its the video card or the lcd?

i didnt even know i could do that. im not to good with these kinds of things i work on cars not comuters. i will try plugging it into an external monitor and see what happens thank you.
