hey guys i recently bought a 91ish ford ranger 4wd stock just put a new rear end in but i am having problems with the motor when u first start the truck it runs very bad blows blue, stalls, and has a rough idel but after driving the truck for a little while the truck runs like new im wonderin if anyone has any ideas wut might be the problem thanks

You may have more than one problem. The blue is likely a bad valve seal or seals allowing oil into the combustion chamber as the motor sits, then burns it off when it starts.

The other symptoms could be a lot of things, such as vacuum leaks, bad or dirty IAC, sticking EGR, bad cold start sensor, etc. Is it throwing any codes? Does the CEL come on when just the key is on and it isn't running yet?

There is ONE problem that could explain it all -- a blown lower intake gasket.

However, there are a number of potential causes for blue smoke (valve GUIDES, piston rings, even perhaps a bad PCV valve), and multiple simultaneous problems aren't anywhere near as rare as some of us might like.

I'd do vacuum and leakdown tests, as well as run the self-tests (with or without a check engine light).

the truck has been sitting for awhile tho as i drive it it seems to get better no blow when starting and when i started it a couple of times it ran perfect

how long did it sit? change the thermostat right away. that won't fix any of the problems you are having but may prevent some costly nasty problems down the road. have the codes pulled from the computer anyway. the one in my Jetta never comes on and it has all kinds of issues....... including a no start condition right now

the truck sat for a minimun of 3 months with a blown rear diff
