I have a 1989 Ford ranger with a 2.3 in it. It's a base s model ranger that was sitting in place for 17 years. I have put a lot of time and money to getting my ranger up and running. I replaced the brakes and the hydraulic system, I replaced the fuel pump and cleaned the tank, I replaced the shocks and greased the front end, I changed the engine oil and the oil in the rear dif. I also replaced the entire cooling system like the radiator coolant hoses temp sensor thermostat etc. I put a new timing belt as well as a new serpentine belt as well as other miscellaneous parts.

Now to my issue
Try as I might the damn thing won't accelerate.
I can't rev it up very high or it will bog down and die down.
When I first got it to start I used carb cleaner. The injectors were not working at first and weren't fueling but now they are. I can also hear them clicking with a stethoscope. I also ran the codes and it came back with a fault with the tp sensor and one for the EGR. I replaced the tps and it still doesn't run right. I plan on cleaning the EGR and I hope it helps.
For reference it won't go over 15 in first and won't do more than 65 ish in 5th. Im also running a fuel cleaner but it hasn't seemed to make a difference. So what do y'all think? What should I try?

Fuel filter? Guessing if you changes the pump you changed it.

Injectors could still be dirty not reaching high flow. Try some fuel injection system cleaner?

EGR would have to be stuck open to hurt anything and I think that's more noticeable at lower RPM.

If the computer thinks it's in neutral there is a 3000RPM rev limiter. 89 should still have the switch on the top plate of the transmission.

Have you checked fuel pressure?

Have you checked for restricted exhaust?

You sure the timing belt isn't a toothache off?

Damn thong...

Search 50/50 test using the search function... you will get answers on how to proceed with your testing.

Geeez...

I'm gonna go nap now.

We checked and the exhaust flows good. The fuel pressure with the key on goes to about 35 psi but immediately drops to 30 after the pump shuts off. When it's running its around the same climbing a bit higher when it's revved. As for the fuel filter I changed it when I replaced the pump

Since I had been running a fuel injector cleaner they weren't to bad although they still had some stuff in the screen. I went ahead and replaced them. I changed the fuel filter when I did the pump around six months ago. I also tried cleaning the EGR and that didn't help. I also replaced the air intake temperature sensor, replaced the fuel pressure regulator and replaced the core in the Schrader valve so I could get a proper reading. I'm gonna have to start throwing more parts at it once I get paid in like two weeks. I don't think the computer thinks it's in neutral because I don't believe I can even get it to 3000rpm. When I replaced the fuel injectors it got very slightly better.
