ok so i took my truck to wal-mart to have the oil changed and somehow they managed to break the top mount that holds my coil spring and shock. there was a little rust but nothing major. Of course they are denying it and i'm in the process of dealing with that but i'm wondering how easy of a fix this is or isn't. if its gonna be cheaper to fix than fight them i'd just rather do that. the mount is held on by rivits. can i just break those off and replace with bolts? please help.

I hate to tell you but I dont think that they are capable of this kind of failure..... Even if they dropped that thing off of a lift....I think you might want to look at just fixing it yourself, perhaps it was worse off than you know. Grind/ torch those rivits out, and do the same to a truck in the junkyard, make sure the frame is good behind it and bolt it in with 8 point hardware. Its a sucky job. Take a picture, maybe, or a lil better description of what happened there. . . . . .

The front pass. side coil bucket is a weak point of any ranger, at least around here. The coil bucket rusted out and broke on me a few years ago, causing the pass. side suspension to drop to the bumpstop. I went to local junkyards in search of a replacement only to find that every ranger had the coil bucket rusted out to the point that it wasn't worth using. I ended up going to the local dealership where they ordered me a new one. Oddly enough, they only stock the passenger side coil bucket as it is apparently a known point of failure on these trucks.
Just grind off the old one and bolt on the new one with the appropriate hardware.
I'm still confused as to how they broke this from an oil change?
