I love the fact that ford offered the off road package in the 2wd Ranger.
-I love it because I don't really need 4 by 4
- I love it because it's cheaper then a 4 by 4
- I love it because I feel like I'm driving a 4 by 4
- I love it because Its easier to maintain then a 4 by 4
- I love it because it gets slightly better gas mileage then a 4 by 4

Only reason I would purchase a real 4 by 4 is
A. I had lots of money to pay for it especially when the mechanic hands me a bill of $2000 and up everytime it breaks down.
B. I had good mechanic skill to repair and maintain it myself.

Of Course in my opinion the best option personally would be an lsd diff. there simple and a lot cheaper.

I see a lot of people shelling out big bucks buying these tacoma's and lexis AWD vehicles thinking that these vehicles wont have so many issues, but personally when the mileage gets up there, they will be surprised at the expensive parts they will have to pay realizing that there in the same boat they were with there old blazers and explorer's breakdowns. :icon_rofl:

If you think the Toyotas are expensive to repair wait until you own a 4X4 with a Mercedes driveline. Happy you like your Ranger. Enjoy it and don't hesitate to personalize it.

My trucks 4x4 is out. when it was working, and i would get stuck in a wet field, put it into 4x4 and i'd pull out instantly. sure 4x4 is more work but it's worth it in the long run.

I tried to convince myself that I didn't need 4wd, and after being unhappy and selling 3 2wd's this year (b2300, sploder, ranger) , I bought myself 4wd (albiet a 4Runner), but I can honestly say I wont own another 2wd pickup again haha

I use 4 wd to visit friends on the beach, and for fetching firewood from out back. It also came in handy when the Rat rejected its new rear U-joint. When I bought the Rat, it was because it had 4wd. It replaced a Grand Wagoneer. I dont DD my 4wds. With the Wags, keeping 4wd was fairly easy. Nothing expensive broke, because I drive softly on loose terrain. I have replaced a few D44 axle U-joints. and run new vacuum hoses, but that was it. After 30 yrs of cart sprung 4x4s. My first look at a D35 was a real WTF moment. All I can say about it is that it hasn't been a problem. :D

I liked my 2x ranger with a 2.3l... but i love my 4x4 with the 4.0l. Rangers are excellent trucks. You'll want 4x4 soon enough. So just buy another ranger to work on and keep the one for DD.

I get a kick outta the way you guys drive 4 X 4 vehicles....it's like you're on a combat mission....sure their gonna break/wear out parts 5 times as often....

but offroading is what you enjoy....

just like I need to smoke em on my street truck every now & then---at the risk of leaving the driveshaft in the middle of the street....

It comes down to knowing what you want & having the funds to keep it going
