So I thought it wouldn't be to hard to try and install a pushbutton starter on my truck. I have a 91 ranger, 2wd, manual. Quickly figured out Ford didn't make access to the ignition switch easy. I was poking around, trying to find the wire that ran from the start switch. Thought I found it, cut it....but that wasn't it, so I spliced it back together. 5 minutes later, while I was looking under the hood, I smelled smoke coming from the cab. An area I hadn't even touched was on fire! Disconnected the battery as quick as I could, put out the flame...but it's pretty melted in there. It was a wiring harness that mounted on top of the steering column under the instrument panel. Any idea what may have caused this? Not sure what I'm going to do now....probably take it to my mechanic
