I have a 93 Ranger XLT with a fleetside short bed Is a stepside bed smaller? If so whats the difference?

So like an inch or two narrower on each side?

the difference in the with is the wheel wells. stepsides don't have them in the bed (well about a 1" wheel well vs about 6) ... i would say about 1 foot narrower inside the box. but they bolt up in place of a fleetside bed on any short bed ranger 93+

Damn thats kinda alot of space to lack of. oh well I think i will still go with stepside I just wont be able to haul nearly as much. I just use it to haul garbage anyways. plus, I am making a trailer out of an old tent trailer anyways to assist me with large bulky things. thanks for the info guys!

the difference in width is not at the wheelwells. both beds have about 40" between wheelwells.

the difference in width comes from the inner bedsides being moved inwards on the flaresides. flaresides have about 43" between the inner bedsides vs a fleetsides 52". a standard 4x8 peice of plywood will not lay between the bedrails of a flareside which it will with a fleetside.

i still haul with my flareside all the time. the narrower bed doesnt become a problem as much as youd think. me and my girlfriend even camped back there for 5 days on our way through canada.

bummer on the plywood but luckily I wont haul that too often usually it is just trash bags and Misc crap.

ok sorry i was off by a few(3)inches about the difference. the hump of the wheel wells are gone in the stepside which is what i said, not that the whole thing is moved in( a little confusing i know)

I know i am kinda late on this but, 3" on each side? That wouldn't be too bad, I am still thinking about the trailer though.

i own a fleet side an a step side.. decied to go to lowes one day with the bananna ( stepside) truck to get a 4x8 sheet of SYTRAFOAM.. well i forgot it wont fit between the rails... so i tied it around the top of the tonneau haha

where did you guys get 3" per side?

the flareside is 9" total narrower than a fleetside.

ive only had to haul a 4x8 sheet of plywood one time and i managed just fine by leaning it against one bedrail and setting the spare tire on it to hold it down.
